ROTT N CHATTER, February 1993, Volume 1 Number 7 THE CHATTER BOX Phillip Fuller, of FT. Myers, Florida remembered all of the bad things he had ever heard about having a big dog, especially a Rottweiler. But four years ago, after his house was broken into, his wife and he were in a quandry as to what to do. It seemed like the only thing they could do was to buy a lot of guns and wear them all the time or sell everything and get out of southwest Florida. You see, either the Fuller's home or place of business had been broken into no less than 6 times and they just felt they had to do something. Their daughter suggested they buy a Rottweiler and so they did. He didn't weigh very much when their daughter brought their little male Rottie puppy home, but she had all the papers and the rest of the things you would expect when you spend that kind of money. "In short, I didn't expect too much", said Phil. "My daughter took him to training 2 times a week, for obedience and protection for 18 months. I was amazed that even with all the harsh training the dog remained very friendly and loving. Every night when I got home he was always waiting for me. After about a year he became "KING" of the house and we all loved him very much. About a year ago it was 2am when I came home from work. (I worked the late shift) I walked out back to my pool, it was dark and I didn't turn on any light. I stepped into the pool with one foot, fell and hit my head on the hand rail which resulted in a severe concussion. I floated face down unconscious in 8 foot of water and I would have drowned if it had not been for my big old black and tan Rottie. Although apparently he did get a little rough while pulling me out of the water (I have the scars to prove it), the Sheriff said I would have been dead by the time I was found". Phil's final comment was to let those people know that may be afraid of the Rottweiler that he is "still here because of a Rottweiler...ONLY GOD CAN MAKE THEM SO GOOD". EDITOR'S NOTE: I am sorry I do not have the name of the Rottie hero, but Mr. Fuller was rather reticent to share his story for publication, as he has had bad experiences in the past. I assured him that those who will share this story will be proud of him and his Black and Tan HERO.
