                      LEGISTLATIVE UPDATES

 

MONTANA...has 4 DANGEROUS DOG laws currently before it. SENATE BILL 156

includes a definition for a "POTENTIALLY dangerous dog." The dog fancy has

asked to if they can suggest improvements, and Senate is being receptive.

 

SOUTH CAROLINA...Remember BREED SPECIFIC H.B 3042. last month?  On February

10th, the bill was tabled so the House Judiciary Committee can come up with

a better way to enforce the current generic DANGEROUS DOG law.

 

VIRGINIA...Senate Bill 479, the VICIOUS and DANGEROUS DOG  bill, is going

to be resubmitted under a new number.  (Watch for this one to show up

again).

 

NEVADA...Assembly Bill 89, a non breed specific is still with the Assembly

Judiciary Committee.  They were going to hold a hearing on February 11th.

 

OCONT, WISCONSIN...A BREED-SPECIFIC dangerous dog LAW WAS PASSED in

November 1992.  (Does anyone have further info on this one?)

 

CASTLE ROCK, COLORADO...A BREED-SPECIFIC dangerous dog law was reportedly

passed late last year.  (Again, does anyone have any further info on this?)

 

BY THE WAY . . . If any of you belong to a Rottweiler club in, ALASKA,

DELAWARE, NORTH CAROLINA, NORTH DAKOTA, MISSISSIPPI, WYOMING, IDAHO or

VERMONT, your club should have received a letter from AKC informing  it

that there are no LEGISLATIVE CONTACTS in any of the above listed States.

You can keep up to-date on all of the pending anti-dog, and dangerous dog

laws by establishing a club LEGISLATIVE LIAISON and calling 800-AKC-TELL

hotline with name and address.

 

FLASH! FLASH! FLASH!

AVMA's Extra Label Drug Use bill has just been reintroduced by Senator

Howell Heflin, as S. B. 340.

 

If this bill doesn't get passed, it will effect EVERY pet owner in the

UNITED STATES! If this Bill is not enacted as law it can mean the death of

virtually any dog with an illness that requires commonly used medications.

Dogs with various HEART DISEASES, DIABETES, EPILEPSY, and CANCER are only a

few.  How about some surgeries with no anesthetics?  If you want more

information on what will happen if this bill does not pass, send a

self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Rott N Chatter.
